Harewood is my happy place! This sign just happens to be almost directly across the street from where I grew up.

There’s something sacred to me about walking the streets (and train tracks) around here, almost like I can feel the history under my feet with every step I take.

Do you have a place like that? If you don’t – FIND ONE! You’ll be glad you did.

Harewood’s railway story runs deeper than most people realize. Long before the modern E&N Trail, the neighbourhood was laced with coal tramways, mine spurs, and proposed rail lines that tied local pits into Vancouver Island’s wider rail economy.

Our new article traces these forgotten lines, the 1860s railway that was surveyed but never built, and how today’s Island Corridor follows the same logic through the land.
