Feast your eyes on these amazing old aerial photos taken high above Harewood.
All of the photos were taken by Englefield Studios – presumably from an airplane – and were found by me while digging through the Nanaimo Archives. Big thanks to Archive Manager Danica for retrieving the high-quality versions.
The really fun part is zooming in to these highly-detailed shots to see how much has changed from the Harewood of today. CLICK ON EACH IMAGE TO ZOOM!
The photo above was taken in 1965 and shows a long shot of most of Harewood and Old Nanaimo (NA#1992 026 A-P5107-3)
The photo below was taken in 1970 and shows the back of Harewood Plaza – AKA Harewood Mall, AKA University Village Shopping Centre – before the second half was built. It also shows the old Harewood School (at the crossroads, centre-top of photo). Georgia School is the building toward the top left of the photo. (NA#1992 026 A-P6002-1)

The next photo was taken in 1965 and shows the famous corner of 4th Street and Bruce Avenue at the bottom left, as well as Harewood Plaza toward the centre. Harewood School can be seen off to the right. (NA#1992 026 A-P127)

The last photo didn't have a date listed, but it looks to have been taken in 1965 as well, and shows the front side of Harewood Plaza. Zoom in to see the Harewood Plaza signs in the parking lot!

I have a bunch more of these – so watch out for VOLUME 2, COMING SOON!
