This is a photo of Harewood Plaza in the 1960s.

This famous local shopping area on the corner of Fifth Street and Bruce Avenue in Nanaimo is better known to people who grew up in the neighbourhood as Harewood Mall, but is now called University Village Shopping Centre.

Shown in the photo is a Super-Valu grocery store on the far left and the Texaco gas station on the corner in the parking lot, which was later replaced with a 7-Eleven.

Notice the sign in the bottom centre of the photo. When zoomed in (click photo to zoom) you can see that it says "Harewood Plaza".

This shot was taken by Englefield Studio sometime in the 1960s. Big thanks to the Nanaimo Archives for allowing us to publish the photo (Item # 1992 026 A-P9).
