Local animal lovers have a chance to microchip their pets for a donation-based fee at a special community event hosted by the Nanaimo & District SPCA and VCA Island Animal Hospital.
Taking place Sunday, Sept. 7 from 12–3 PM at 1800 Bowen Rd., the clinic offers microchipping for dogs, cats, and rabbits – a quick and painless procedure that greatly improves the chances of being reunited with a lost pet.
"It’s very safe to get done," Dr. Jamie Wintemute, medical director at VCA, told Nanaimo News Now "It's essentially pain-free for the animal."
The family-friendly event will feature food trucks, raffle prizes, and behind-the-scenes tours of the clinic.
Pre-registration is recommended by calling 250-741-0778 or emailing nanaimo@spca.bc.ca.
All proceeds will support local SPCA programs that help animals find forever homes.
